Sustainability takes shape at Larimar with Susanne Leib

Larimar City & Resort has held its first sustainability training session, led by Susanne Leib, to share with its teams a new stage in the environmental management of the project.

At Larimar City & Resort we are building a city, but we also want to build a way of doing things: an approach to real estate development in which sustainability, environmental responsibility and commitment to people are part of every decision.

Today we want to introduce Susanne Leib, the professional who is walking this path with us and who yesterday delivered our first sustainability training session, aimed at the middle management of Larimar City & Resort.

That session marks the start of a new stage in which we want to involve our teams, partners, suppliers and our whole community in the initiatives we are about to launch.

Because sustainability is not built by one department. It is built by everyone.

Meet Susanne Leib

Susanne Leib, Colombian-German by birth, has more than fifteen years of experience in sustainability and a long professional career in environmental management.

Her background includes international experience in business, waste management, production processes and the introduction of environmental criteria into different economic activities.

Throughout her career she has led and taken part in initiatives aimed at optimising processes, using resources efficiently and embedding environmental management within organisations, including her experience at Grupo Puntacana. Her international track record also covers marine environmental management in Ecuador and the Turks and Caicos Islands, bringing an integrated view of sustainability and the protection of natural resources.

Her qualifications include a certification in environmental management from the University of Salamanca, Spain, obtained in 2025.

Susanne currently works in environmental management for CLERHP and Larimar City & Resort, helping to bring sustainability criteria into the development processes of the project.

Her role in the project

Her work supports the implementation, management and environmental compliance of Larimar City, through the rollout and monitoring of its Environmental Management Plan, in line with Dominican regulations and the principles of sustainable development.

That includes monitoring environmental measures, coordinating with suppliers and supporting the teams so these responsibilities become part of their daily work.

It is a particularly important role on a project the size of Larimar, where urban planning, construction and environmental protection have to move forward together.

Our first session: understanding sustainability in order to apply it

Yesterday we held our first sustainability training session, aimed at middle managers from the different departments of Larimar City & Resort, where we began sharing the concepts and tools that will guide our environmental management.

With Susanne we tackled a fundamental question: what does being sustainable actually mean? Her answer: sustainability means finding the balance between three inseparable dimensions: protecting the environment, the wellbeing of people, and economic development.

From that starting point, we looked at the main international frameworks that turn commitments into day-to-day business management.

We discussed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, environmental, social and governance criteria, and the GRI standards, which make it possible to structure and communicate sustainability results.

We also went deeper into the Environmental Management System and the Dominican Republic's Green Taxonomy, tools that will help us move towards management that is more structured, measurable and transparent.

The goal of this first session was not only to acquire knowledge, but to understand how each of us can contribute from our own role.

What we are going to put in place at Larimar

This first training session is the starting point of work we want to share with all of the company's stakeholders, covering the rollout of the plan and its monitoring and control.

Our aim is to move forward with an Environmental Management System that accompanies the development of Larimar City & Resort from construction through to its future operation. The system will organise procedures, assign responsibilities, track the measures taken and work to criteria of prevention and continuous improvement.

The lines of work ahead include, among others, responsible water and waste management, monitoring the environmental impact of the works, protecting biodiversity, and bringing sustainability criteria into our relationship with suppliers.

We want sustainability to stop being only a commitment and become a way of working, of making decisions and of building a city. We want you to be part of that process: we will share the initiatives we launch, the progress we make and the challenges we meet along the way. Because we understand sustainability as a shared responsibility that starts with every decision and every action in our day-to-day work.

Building the future of Larimar also means taking responsibility for looking after the environment that makes it possible. And that is a future we want to build together.
